Description
5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule research compound, 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, supplied by Gentleman Peptides as a single 5 mg vial. Although it sits alongside peptides in our catalogue, it is not a peptide: it is a methylated quinoline derivative.

What is NNMT and why is 5-Amino-1MQ studied?
Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is an enzyme that transfers a methyl group to nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3. Methylquinolinium compounds were identified in published medicinal-chemistry research as inhibitors of this enzyme, and the 5-amino derivative is among the best-known examples used as a laboratory tool for studying it.
The compound is not approved by the FDA and has no approved medical use. It is sold here for laboratory research only.

A small molecule in a peptide catalogue
It is supplied in a vial like our peptides, but its chemistry is quite different. Its molecular weight is far lower than that of even the shortest peptides, and it carries a permanent positive charge on the quinolinium nitrogen. Those properties affect how it behaves in solution, so treat it as a small-molecule reagent rather than assuming peptide handling conventions apply.
Researchers sometimes study it alongside AOD9604 or L-Carnitine in metabolic research. These compounds are chemically unrelated, so record the compound, form and amount separately for each one.
Storage and handling
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides are normally kept sealed, cold and protected from light and moisture until they are used. Allow a refrigerated vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation, and once a vial has been opened or reconstituted for laboratory work, store and handle it according to your laboratory’s own procedures.
Checking the label
The label on this product states the compound name, the amount (5 mg) and that it is for research use only. When your order arrives, check that the label matches what you ordered, and record the product name, amount and date received in your notes before use. If anything does not match, contact us before opening the product.

5-Amino-1MQ FAQs
How much 5-Amino-1MQ is in the vial?
The vial is labelled 5 mg.
Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide?
No. It is a small molecule – a methylated quinolinium compound – rather than a chain of amino acids.
Is this compound for human use?
No. It is sold for laboratory research only and is not intended for human or veterinary use.
Why is 5-Amino-1MQ supplied in a vial?
A sealed vial protects the compound from moisture and contamination and allows a precise amount, 5 mg, to be supplied as a single unit. It is the same format used for most of our research compounds.
For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. This product is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. See our research use policy.
