What is GW501516?
It is a synthetic small molecule that selectively activates PPARδ, a nuclear receptor that regulates genes involved in fatty-acid metabolism. It was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and Ligand Pharmaceuticals, but development stopped in 2007 after animal studies found that it caused cancer in multiple organs.
It has never been approved as a medicine and is banned in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency. This solution is supplied strictly for laboratory research.
